Upgrade driver licence or amend driver badge type

To upgrade your Private Hire driver licence to a Dual or Hackney Carriage licence you will need to pass a computer knowledge test, submit the completed application form and pay a fee.

If you currently hold a Dual or Hackney Carriage driver licence and would like to amend your badge type, you will need to submit a completed application form and pay a fee.

Computer knowledge test

To take the computer knowledge test you will need to book an appointment using our online booking system.

You must pay for your appointment at the time of booking or your appointment will be cancelled.

If you are unable to attend your appointment you must notify us no later than 48 hours prior to the appointment or you will be subject to a re-booking fee. You can amend or cancel your appointment using the link in your email confirmation.

Application form and fee

If you have taken and passed the computer knowledge test and need to amend your badge to dual and/or remove the private hire status please complete the following application form and return via email to Licensing@north-herts.gov.uk along with any specified documents on the form.

Receiving your licence

Once you have submitted your application and paid the fee your application will be processed in accordance with the Taxi and private hire licensing policy. You will be contacted once your licence has been granted and provided the details for collection.
