Hitchin and Letchworth outdoor pools are officially opening their doors for summer this year on Saturday 29 May, at the start of the school May half term holiday.
Stevenage Leisure Limited (SLL) who manage the pools on behalf of North Herts District Council (NHDC) are following the government roadmap out of lockdown which means some restrictions will be in place including pre-booking and limited numbers initially.
Covid secure measures have been introduced, including online booking, one-way systems, queuing systems for busy times and ongoing monitoring of numbers. These measures will be continually monitored and reviewed throughout the 2021 season.
Both outdoor pools are heated and benefit from having smaller heated pools for toddlers and younger children, grassed areas for sunbathing and cafés that provide refreshments and snacks. A range of concessions are available for families, multi-swim tickets and swim memberships. Both pools can be hired for private functions and pool parties, when government restrictions allow.
Hitchin outdoor pool will be open Monday – Friday 8am to 6.30pm and at weekends from 8am until 6pm. Letchworth pool will be opening from 7am to 6.30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and will open at the slightly later time of 8am to 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. At weekends the pool will be open from 8.30am until 6pm. Both pools will stay open until mid-September.
Vaughan Watson, NHDC’s Service Director – Place, said: “We are so lucky to have these fantastic outdoor pools to enjoy and I am pleased that we are in a position now to reopen them.
“We are expecting the pools will be in high demand, so don’t forget to book, and please do follow the Covid safety guidelines so everyone can enjoy themselves. Whilst we are keen for visitors to enjoy their time at the pool this year, keeping everyone safe is our top priority.”
Lee Medlock, Regional Contract Manager for SLL said: “Although there are some restrictions in place, Hitchin and Letchworth outdoor pools can’t wait to welcome customers back. Swimming sessions will be bookable online via www.sll.co.uk but for those that are keen swimmers, season tickets will be available at Letchworth and there are a variety of membership options available for Hitchin.”
