The much loved Letchworth Festival received a cash boost of £3,000 last week after the organisers were awarded a grant by North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC’s) Letchworth Committee*.
The festival, which will take place from Saturday 20 June to Sunday 5 July 2020, is one of the highlights of the town’s events calendar, attracting a cross-section of artists and performers from the local area and further afield. The festival is in its 11th year and coincides with Hertfordshire’s Year of Culture 2020.
Many events are held at venues across the town showcasing local talent, including at Broadway Cinema, The Cloisters, Howard Park, the Outdoor Pool and Willian Church, all of which introduce people to local architecture and outdoor spaces. Funding will be used towards the cost of the stage hire at the open air concert in Howard Park and Gardens; the grand finale of the festival.
Run entirely by a committee of passionate, local volunteers with no paid staff, the festival has a sustained track record of excellence.
Cllr Gary Grindal, NHDC’s Chair of the Letchworth Committee, said: "I’d like to thank the Festival Committee, along with the community groups and individuals involved for all their hard work and generous support given to organising the festivals to date. We know just how important these events are to our town and to the local community. We hope this grant will contribute towards another successful festival; I urge everyone to save the dates in your diaries now".
Hilary Kemp, Chair of the Letchworth Festival Committee said: "On behalf of all the Letchworth Festival organisers, I'd like to say how grateful we are to NHDC for providing grant funding to support this year's programme of events. This helps us to plan the popular festival finale event, the Park Live family music festival in Howard Park, with confidence, and start to secure local musicians to perform on the Park Live stage.
"We are currently planning many other activities to fill the 2020 festival fortnight. We welcome all ideas and volunteers from the community to help bring you a schedule that is exciting and offers something for everyone in Letchworth".
