North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Southern Rural Committee awarded grant funding to two community organisations at its meeting on 10 October.
Offley Village Hall received £389* towards the purchase and delivery of a Christmas Tree for the village. The tree will be lit from mid December until mid January of next year and will bring Christmas cheer to those who pass by. The funding will also assist with costs for a Christmas disco for local children. Previous discos have raised funds for the NSPCC and Offley School.
Wymondley Baptist Church received £1,500* to convert its current toilet facilities into disabled access toilets. Once converted, the toilet facilities will be available for use by wheelchair users and those with mobility issues. The Church in Little Wymondley is not only a place of worship, but also a community hub, acting as a host to clubs such as activity clubs for the elderly, a retired men’s group, community sports groups and a local drama group.
Cllr Claire Strong, Chair of NHDC’s Southern Rural Committee said: "These two very different projects promote inclusivity and community spirit, helping to bring local people together to celebrate special events and take part in activities. We are delighted to be able to assist them by awarding this grant funding."
