Royston residents are set to benefit from a day of free health advice, fitness activities and wellbeing support as Health Action Day makes its debut at Royston Leisure Centre on Saturday 15 February.

The event, which will run from 10am until 2pm, marks an exciting new initiative for the leisure centre since Everyone Active took over operations in April last year.

At a time when many are seeking support with physical and mental wellbeing, this health event promises something for everyone, from fitness enthusiasts to those taking their first steps toward a healthier lifestyle.

The leisure centre, managed by Everyone Active in partnership with North Herts Council, will host an array of local organisations offering advice and support.

Visitors can speak with representatives from Age UK, Citizens Advice and Diabetes UK, while emergency services including Hertfordshire Police and Fire Service will also be present.

A special highlight of the day will be the charity Fitathon in aid of Breast Cancer Now.

Participants can join one or several 25-minute sessions throughout the day, starting with a full-body Body Pump workout at 10am and concluding with upbeat Clubbercise dance routines at 1:30pm.

Other sessions include Yoga, Zumba, Body Combat, and the challenging but popular Metafit class.

Juanita Prescott, Activity & Wellbeing Manager at Everyone Active, said: "It is well documented that a high percentage of people in the UK are sedentary, overweight, experiencing poor mental health and are at an increasing risk of developing life-threatening illnesses, which puts a huge strain on the NHS and local authorities.

“The Health Action Day concept was designed to connect people with local health professionals, charities, and voluntary groups who can provide vital support and guidance.

“We believe that by bringing these services together under one roof, we can make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of our community."

Cllr Mick Debenham, Executive Member for Leisure, at North Herts Council, said: “Health Action Day is a fantastic initiative that aligns perfectly with our commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of our residents. This event provides a great opportunity for people to connect with local experts and discover ways to improve both their physical and mental health. I’m proud to see Royston Leisure Centre host this event, which I hope will inspire people to take those first steps toward a healthier lifestyle.”

Local service providers will be on hand to discuss healthcare programmes and physical activity opportunities suitable for all ages and abilities.

The event is free to attend and runs from 10am to 2pm in the sports hall at Royston Leisure Centre.
