Two job placements for young people aged 16 to 24 have been created at North Herts District Council through the Governments Kickstart Scheme, with more placements in the pipeline. The two current six-month placements are available within the I.T team.
These placements have been funded through the Government to cover the cost for necessary support and training, national minimum wage payments, National Insurance, and pension contributions for the first six months. This allows businesses, organisations and third sector employers to create more local job opportunities, bring fresh faces into their workforce, and allow them to develop their skills.
NHDC is also encouraging Employers in North Herts to join the Kickstart Scheme as it is a great opportunity for local companies and not-for-profits to take on some additional staff at no cost to themselves. Employers can spread the job start dates up until 31 December 2021, with funding until 30 June 2022 if a young person starts their job on 31 December 2021.
Elizabeth Dennis-Harburg, Leader at NHDC, said: “We are delighted to offer additional opportunities for young people at NHDC. It’s a challenging time for a young person to find a job in the current climate. Working in partnership with North Herts College, we’re providing the experience and training needed to boost their career development.
“We are also encouraging employers to join the scheme and provide an opportunity to our young people whose lives have been so disrupted by the pandemic. We hope organisations from all sectors will support younger workers gaining valuable workplace experience, new skills and training that will set them up for future career success.”
To be eligible you must live in North Herts, be aged 16– 24 and in receipt of Universal Credit. For the two placements in I.T, a driving licence will be required. To apply, applicants need to go through the Job Centre Plus where they will be supported by work coaches through the process. Whilst the Kickstart roles are all for 6 months, candidates can apply for other suitable vacancies that arise at the Council via Jobs page on the NHDC website.
