The Careline team with their award

Seeing off competition from two police forces, Herts Careline has been awarded Team of the Year at the national Control Room Awards 2022!

The awards recognise the inspiring work of control room teams and individuals as well as the selfless service they provide to the public. More than 170 entries were received from over 40 organisations including the police, ambulance and fire and rescue services, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, councils and private care providers across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Careline won its category beating teams from Lincolnshire Police and Durham Constabulary.

A group of representatives attended the awards ceremony held at Birmingham NEC on Wednesday, 21 September. The judges said: "The Herts Careline team really stood out for the way the team handled the additional pressures of call handling during the pandemic. The control room team performs a vital role supporting thousands of people with medical conditions and vulnerabilities, and delivers outstanding results for the organisation and the community it serves. The team and its members are clearly dedicated to the people who depend on the services they provide and take great pride in supporting them, often in critical situations."

Councillor Judi Billing, North Herts Council’s Executive Member for Community Engagement, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the Herts Careline team has been recognised for their dedication to the local community. It is thoroughly deserved and appreciated.

“They provide a crucial service, helping those living with medical conditions, old age and vulnerabilities, to live more independently in their own homes, and giving them and their families peace of mind.”

Mike Isherwood, founder of the Control Room Awards, added: “Over the past couple of years the emergency services and control rooms have faced unprecedented pressures and demands. These awards are a vital opportunity to recognise how control teams and individuals continue to respond brilliantly to these challenges, with amazing professionalism, skill and resilience.”

Herts Careline’s community alarm and telecare service provides reassurance and freedom to over 16,000 residents across the county, with support and advice available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from the control room team who take in the region of 1,500 calls each day. It provides assistive technology such as pendant alarms, fall detectors, door sensors, smoke detectors and epilepsy monitors.
