Do you have unwanted electronic clutter at home? North Herts Council is holding a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) collection, where you can bring along your unwanted, old and broken electrical items to be reused or recycled. It will be held on Sunday 17 October from 10am – 3pm at Woodside car park, Walsworth Road, Hitchin, SG4 9SG.
Electrical items cannot be placed in your kerbside bins and should either be disposed of at one of our WEEE events or by taking it to a Household Waste Recycling Centre.
You can bring along any small electrical objects with a battery or plug, such as: toasters, kettles, hairdryers and TVs. However, we are not accepting larger white goods such as washing machines, dishwashers and fridges. A full list of things that can be taken to the event can be found on the North Herts Council website.
Items brought along which are suitable for reuse will be taken away, repaired if necessary and tested before being put back on the market. Those that cannot be reused will be recycled.
Cllr Amy Allen, North Herts Council’s Executive Member for Recycling and Waste Management said:
“We have been running WEEE events for some time as they are a popular way for residents to de-clutter and dispose of their unwanted and broken items in an environmentally friendly way.
This is our first event since lockdowns began. I am very glad we can finally bring back these well attended opportunities to reuse and recycle. As electrical waste cannot be put in your recycling bins this is a great opportunity for you to dispose of your unwanted clutter.”
If you can’t make the event, unwanted electrical items can be taken to Household Waste Recycling Centres at Letchworth, Stevenage and Royston for recycling. See www.wasteaware.org.uk for details of these sites.
