Struggling with the rising cost of your weekly shop? Do you want help with cooking healthy meals that don’t cost the earth? Stressed at cooking various meals to suit the whole family’s tastes?
A series of food education sessions are taking place across the district during national Healthy Eating Week, 13-17 June. The council’s Healthy Hub team is supporting the British Nutrition Foundation’s campaign which aims to encourage everyone to have a healthier and more sustainable diet.
Sessions are free but please book a place:
- Monday 13 June, 9.30-11.30am – Family fun with food and soft play in Weston
- Thursday 16 June, 10-11am – Family fun with food in Baldock
- Friday 17 June, 10-11.45am – Family Fun with Food and soft play in Knebworth
- Saturday 18 June, 2-3.30pm – Healthy eating on a budget for adults in Baldock
There are also two closed sessions, one in partnership with Icknield Walk First School in Royston, and one supporting adults with a learning disability which is being run in partnership with local charity Supported Activities Programme.
Councillor Judi Billing, Executive Member for Community Engagement, said: “With the cost of living crisis causing hardship and worry to so many at the moment, we hope that residents will find these sessions helpful. We’re not trying to tell people what to eat – this whole week is about helping people by providing information and useful, practical tips on eating more healthily, and particularly how to do that on a shrinking budget at this difficult time.”
Regular family fun with food workshops are already offered in Letchworth, Hitchin and Royston as part of the Healthy Hub’s events programme.
