Female genital mutilation (FGM) is illegal in the UK. It is also illegal to take someone out of the country to subject them to FGM, or to help someone trying to do this.
You can get up to 14 years in prison for carrying our FGM or helping it to take place.
Are you or someone you know at risk of FGM?
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger of FGM, call the police on 999. You can also call the police on 101 for advice if it's not an emergency.
If you or someone you know is at risk, you can contact the NSPCC anonymously on their dedicated FGM helpline on 0800 028 3550 (open 24/7) or email fgm.help@nspcc.org.uk.
