It is with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of Cllr Michael Weeks, a dedicated member of the Conservative Party and former ward councillor for Baldock Town. Michael passed away recently at the age of 83. He will be deeply missed by many, and our thoughts are with his family and friends during this very sad time.

Michael served as a district councillor at North Herts Council for 25 years, from his election in 1999 until he decided to stand down at the most recent elections in May 2024.

Reflecting on his years of service, Cllr Daniel Allen, Leader of North Herts Council, said: "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of former Cllr Weeks. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Michael was a true pillar of our community. His dedication and unwavering commitment to public service have left a lasting impact on Baldock Town and beyond. He will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and tireless efforts to make a difference."

Michael was elected as Vice Chair of the Council from May 2010 to May 2011 and went on to serve as Chair of the Council from May 2011 to May 2012. From May 2017 to May 2019, he was a member of the Cabinet, during which he served as Executive Member for Waste Management, Recycling and Environment under the Conservative administration.

Throughout his tenure, Michael also contributed significantly to various committees, including as Chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee from May 2013 to May 2017. He held several terms as Chair and Vice Chair of Baldock and District Area Committee, including most recently from May 2020 to May 2021.

In the 2023/24, he was appointed as a North Herts Council representative at the Baldock Town Twinning Association, the Baldock United Almshouse Charities, the Baldock Community Forum, and the Baldock Youth and Community Association.
