Organisers of the Independent Baldock Beer Festival have been awarded a grant of £1,000 to help the festival “bounce back” next year. North Herts District Council’s (NHDC) Baldock Committee awarded the grant at its meeting last week (22 June).
The Independent Baldock Beer Festival has been running since 2007 and has been a registered charity since 2017. The Committee is made up of 11 volunteers and supported by around 100 volunteers during the event. During the last 10 years the Independent Baldock Beer Festival has raised almost £85k for local charities and good causes. As well as being a popular community event, the Beer Festival is also used as a fundraising exercise by local Scout groups and youth groups.
The grant will go towards the purchase a storage container for storing equipment at Brandles School in Baldock.
Cllr Michael Weeks, Chairman of NHDC’s Baldock and District Committee said: “We are delighted to be able to support the Independent Baldock Beer festival. Its longevity is testament to the event’s popularity and we look forward to its return next year”.
Tara Geere, who chairs the Independent Baldock Beer Festival Charitable Trust, said: “The Baldock Beer Festival Committee are extremely grateful for the support from the individual councillors and NHDC towards the purchase of a storage container, given we were not able to generate any income during the Covid-19 pandemic. This will help to keep the festival running in future years and hopefully generate more income for the Independent Baldock Beer Festival Charitable Trust to give away in the future.
“We have donated just under £85,000 to our great community in the last twelve years. We look forward to seeing you all at our next Festival once the current restrictions are lifted.”
