Artwork celebrating three local female artists is available to view – and buy! – at the latest exhibition at North Herts Museum.
‘Three2C – Special moments in time’ features watercolours, textiles and oils by Sharon Freedman, Mary MacSweeney and Gill Kendall.
Ros Allwood, Cultural Services Manager at North Herts Council, said: “We are delighted to host this exhibition, with many of the fabulous pieces for sale. We hope that the exhibition inspires other artists and creative groups to apply to exhibit in The Arches.”
Information about the three artists:
Sharon Freedman (flowers in vases)
“I studied at Camberwell School of Art and Crafts a long time ago, and over the years I've done lots of drawing and painting, sometimes intermittently. I've been painting watercolours for a couple of years now.”
Mary MacSweeney
Mary is an Art Psychotherapist retired from CAMHs – the NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. She still occasionally practices group art therapy voluntarily for a local charity.
Mary has been making art for many years and during the Covid pandemic has been making Nuno felt (a wet felting technique) which has resulted in some large artwork.
Mary was born in Hitchin and returned to the town when she had her own family.
Gill Kendall
“I have a BA Honours in Fine Art from Brighton Art College in 1974 and taught A level Art for 35 years until I retired a few years ago. I have exhibited in Kent and now Hertfordshire since I moved here two years ago.
“My work is inspired by vintage black and white photographs, sourced from family albums and flea markets. I work in oils and focus on recapturing a moment in time from the past.”
The exhibition takes place in The Arches, part of the Terrace Gallery, at North Hertfordshire Museum, Brand Street, Hitchin. General admission and this exhibition is free. The Museum is open Tue-Sat 10.30am-4.30pm and Sun 11am-3pm.
