NHDC to hold free office furniture giveaway

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) is opening the doors of its old offices in Letchworth to offer local community groups, businesses and residents the opportunity to have some of its unwanted office furniture for free.

The office furniture was unable to be used in the recent move back to the NHDC Headquarters in Gernon Road and NHDC has been looking for a suitable home for the equipment since the move earlier this year.

Recently, a donation of furniture from the old NHDC office went to the Medical Detection Dogs charity to help them kit out their head office and carry on their good work.

Now NHDC are offering any remaining office furniture items to local charities, community groups, businesses and residents and would like to invite those interested to come and take what they need. There will be no charge for items.

Office furniture items that are available include office desks, desk chairs, filing cabinets, shelf units, wall shelving, bookcases, meeting room chairs, meeting tables, a large reception desk and storage units.

Town Lodge in Gernon Road, Letchworth will be open for people to choose and remove items on Thursday 6 December, Wednesday 12 December and Friday 14 December. Doors will open at 1pm and close at 4pm each day. Furniture items cannot be reserved in advance by phone or email and must be removed on the day they are seen. A small car park at the back of the Lodge will be available for loading items into transport only.

Cllr Julian Cunningham, NHDC’s Executive Member for Finance and IT said: "We are pleased that we are able to give some of these items away to local residents, charities and community groups and hope that people will step forward to take advantage of this offer. All items are offered on a first come first served basis so be there early or you might miss out."
